Brusfri is an advanced audio noise reducer that offers a user-friendly interface. It is particularly effective at cleaning up noisy audio recordings while maintaining sound quality. Unlike many other noise reducers on the market, Brusfri employs a technique that avoids audio phasing, ensuring minimal side effects. Instead, it utilizes multiple finely adjusted gates for precise noise suppression.
Brusfri can also function as an AUv3 plug-in compatible with various hosts like GarageBand.
Here are some examples of sound conditions where Brusfri excels:
- Guitar amp
- Noisy vintage gear
- Boosted pre-amp
- iPhone/iPad and external mic hiss
- Room reverb removal
- Fan noise
- Background ambiance
- Mains hum/Electric hum
Usage:
In short, simply press the "Learn" button for a few seconds while isolated noise is playing to create a noise profile. This may be all that's needed.
Brusfri can be used either as a standalone application or as an AUv3 plug-in.
Standalone:
Import the audio by extracting it from a video, importing from iTunes, or using the "Open In..." option in another audio-exporting app. While playing the unwanted noise, press and hold the "Learn" button (the ear) (ensuring that only isolated noise is being fed to the ear). Release the "Learn" button, and Brusfri will begin reducing the noise.
AUv3 plug-in:
Open Brusfri within any AUv3 compatible host. Identify a region in the recording containing only noise and play it. Tap and hold the "LEARN" button for a brief moment (one second is sufficient). Once the "LEARN" button is released, Brusfri will commence noise reduction.
Several parameters are available that affect the noise reduction algorithm:
- ATK/THRS/REL (Attack Time/Threshold/Release Time): The threshold determines the amount of noise to be removed, with a lower value resulting in more reduction. The attack and release settings determine the time it takes for the reducer to engage.
- LOOKAHEAD: Smooths out transient processing.
- EDGE: Controls the aggressiveness of reduction, with a lower value producing a smoother reduction.
- HPF: Reduces low frequencies.
- HIGH: Compensates by boosting high frequencies.
- MIX: Adjusts the balance between the dry and noise-reduced signal.
NOTE: Brusfri is CPU intensive, and it is recommended to use an iPhone 6 or iPad Air 2 (or better). When employed as an AUv3 plug-in, freezing or bouncing tracks is highly recommended to reduce CPU usage.
